The Facebook Museum: bringing the end closer together

Why we haven't succeeded in letting go of Big Tech (yet).

Facebook Museum @ Utrecht Centraal

Interactive talk about the importance of considering emotional attachment in our dependency on big tech/social media platforms.

About

Companies and governments are questioning our dependence on Big Tech. More and more organizations start offering motivation and tools to facilitate migrating to different places. But apart from some tech-savvy pioneers, most people still live their online existence on platforms from exploitative mega-corporations. Maybe we should consider our attachment to these platforms as more than a rational and technical problem.

SETUP asks the question whether we should consider our emotional attachments to these platforms as well. What does it mean to say goodbye to a platform like Facebook, and what can we learn about (un-)successful migrations from other big-tech platforms.
