The Fundamental Collection by Sjoerd Geerts is an ever-growing series of interior objects. Rooted in clear form, material combinations, and modular construction, the pieces also draw inspiration from fundamental elements in nature, science(fiction), and space exploration.
From material clarity to cosmic curiosity
The Fundamental Collection is an ongoing body of work by Eindhoven-based designer Sjoerd Geerts. Each object is built on a fundamental approach: clarity in form, thoughtful combinations of materials, and honest, often modular constructions. At the same time, the collection reflects his fascination with the fundamentals of life itself; elements from nature, science, and the cosmos that shape how we perceive our world. Experimenting with fundamentals therefore is not only a way of working, but also a way to grasp the world around him: reaching for what is not yet fully understood. Whether it is mastering a new material technique, capturing a fleeting element in form, or reflecting on nature and the cosmos. there is always both clarity and mystery.
The Fundamentals of Living
During Dutch Design Week 2025, the collection is shown in a setting that resembles a modest living space rather than a formal gallery. Here, the individual objects reinforce one another, presented in context as part of a home-like environment. Visitors are invited to step inside, take a closer look, and reflect on how design quietly shapes the spaces we inhabit, but also the other way around.
It's all about the collective
In addition to the work of Sjoerd Geerts, this location (Sectie-C, Hall-G) also features work by Corradino Garofalo, Studio Remy, Hedwich Hooghiemstra, Maxim Duterre, Offsite, Willem van Hoof, and Moon Seop Seo, including a collective exhibition of objects by the various makers.
