How much untapped potential lies in the corners of our spaces? This project by Matthieu Moons (de staat) redefines corners, viewing them not as subordinate, but as valid design elements. Three objects demonstrate a new approach to the corner.
Orb light/machine
A symphony of lightscapes envelops your vision, inviting the mind on an inner journey. The experience goes beyond sight, painting patterns directly onto the canvas of the mind. A gentle, ambient presence in quiet moments.

Verge beacon
From a distance, its shape is unclear, only revealing its dual nature upon approach: a form of harsh lines and soft surfaces. Set on a corner, it is a functional beacon, casting a light that both defines and connects the surrounding space.

Corner bench
Corner bench is an outdoor bench for two, designed to embrace an exterior corner and become one with its architecture. It positions users at a 90-degree angle, shifting interaction from visual to purely vocal. The wall serves as a backrest, absorbing the sun’s heat to provide warmth long after dusk. Unable to exist without its corner, the bench is a minimalist object fully dependent on its environment.
