Nieuw Eindhovens Peil

Anwyn Howarth

Nieuw Eindhovens Peil (NEP) is a foundation by the Stroomhuis collective in Eindhoven. It supports emerging and non-mainstream art through raw-edged exhibitions and concerts. NEP aims to enrich the city’s cultural landscape by elevating alternative voices and avant-garde expression.

Stroomhuis: Shocked by the Current

Stroomhuis was a cultural center in Eindhoven. Unfortunately, the iconic building was destroyed by a major fire in October 2024. The Stroomhuis was known for its concerts and for connecting the music scene. It was also a space for art and design. After the fire, many people from the cultural scene were deeply shocked.
The work on display in this exhibition is a reminder of what the Stroomhuis was and what it meant to its creators. Artists Eva Raaijmakers and Rosalie Braamkolk have both, in their own unique ways, created something as a process of healing. There is overlap in the painstaking work with which the artists managed to depict the iconic building. Raaijmakers used carving, creating a linocut with an abstract layout of the building. Here, Braamkolk, on the other hand, has worked three-dimensionally, recreating the Stroomhuis to scale.

Stichting Nieuw Eindhovens Peil

With Nieuw Eindhovens Peil (NEP), the collective behind Stroomhuis inaugurates a foundation devoted to cultivating emerging and non-mainstream artistic expression. It reflects an essential counterbalance to the city’s increasingly homogenized cultural landscape. By curating exhibitions, concerts, and events with an intentionally unrefined, avant-garde character, Nieuw Eindhovens Peil seeks not merely to host but to elevate the alternative arts scene in Eindhoven, allowing it to assert its rightful place within the cultural canon.

Perfect youth

The spaces that facilitate underground culture, facilitate the youth in their endeavors. They give the new generations space to explore, discover and experience. They are vital playing grounds in the development of our underground scenes. Jonas Sars documents parts of Eindhoven's underground scene through video and animation, giving the viewer a glance at what these alternative communities look like through the eyes of someone who is part of it. Another artist who shares her personal view of these alternative worlds is Lotte Hendrickx, through drawings and poetry she allows you to feel what it’s like to be a part of communities like those in Stroomhuis.
