My work is a tribute to the quiet processes, the tragedies, and the exuberance of nature.
With my ceramic cocoons I want to evoke wonder for the countless natural forms, colors, and transformations around us. To be able to reflect more on subtle processes of change.
Known and enigmatic
In my cocoons, elements such as scales, wings, bones, and fins can be recognized. I draw inspiration from all the ‘everyday’ things around us, such as the sprouting of a small plant or the patterns like the bark of a tree. I collect these and combine them on my cocoons. In the cocoons you will always recognize things, but the whole cannot be placed. The forms remain deliberately enigmatic, thus creating space to reflect on the natural processes of transformation and growth that they represent. In this way, we can once again look at these developments with an almost childlike gaze and begin to question, to marvel, or even to be frightened.
Innocent wonder
There was a time when we could not fully explain the world around us. Nature possessed something unruly, mysterious, and unpredictable. I try to rediscover that openness in my cocoons. I express this with clay because of the ancient and natural character of the material. With care and attention to detail, I shape my forms so that they gain their own character and diversity, making the idea of a beating heart possible.
In our time, when everything seems to move faster and feel more restless, I want to remind us of the quiet, often unnoticed wonders that surround us. By paying attention to the small and the ordinary, we can once again find comfort and wonder, and continue to draw trust from the transformative power of nature.
