Kosima Lighting

A modular ceramic lamp that uses open structures to enhance the interplay between light and shadow.

As a small ceramic design duo from Germany we like to redefine ceramic material as a stable medium for furniture design. Our ceramic lamp KOSIMA is the attempt to link handcrafted products with industrial thinking

Redefining ceramic furniture

KOSIMA is 1.60 m tall and consists of a solid concrete base with four ceramic modules stacked on top of it. Depending on the light and viewing angle, the ceramic surface shimmers in hues ranging from mother-of-pearl to light blue. The lamp represents a consistent and refined continuation of the work we presented at DDW25.
The ceramic modules are glazed multiple times and feature irregular perforations, creating a dynamic, flowing structure. Through this structure, a dimmable LED strand produces an intricate interplay of light and shadow; KOSIMA is dimmable.

New to our approach: The ceramic components were manufactured by the company Kaufmann Keramik in southern Germany, while the remaining work was handcrafted by us.
