Lumiloop

Transformation

Lumiloop is a playful lighting object made from upcycled plastic plates and bowls collected from second-hand stores across the Netherlands. Madeleine carefully selects them for their shape, colour, and translucency, these discarded everyday objects are transformed into vibrant lighting pieces that reveal the hidden potential of overlooked materials.

Material choise

As consumers increasingly avoid buying new plastic tableware due to concerns such as microplastics, existing plastic tableware often ends up in second-and shops. By reusing these existing objects, they are given a new purpose and value in a different context.

Culture of overconsumption

By shifting plastic from a disposable product to a desirable and functional lighting object, Lumiloop challenges our culture of overconsumption and invites people to reconsider the value of existing materials. The project demonstrates how circular design can reduce environmental impact while celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and functional value.
