KD26 is an art project by Korinna van Balkom and Daan Rietbergen, merging fashion and typography. KD26 B is a black-and-white crocheted vest shaped like the letter B, designed to be worn on the body or displayed as a work of art on the wall.

KD26

KD26 is a creative project by Korinna van Balkom (1989) and Daan Rietbergen (1988) and operates at the intersection of fashion, typography and art and will ultimately realize 26 unique artworks, starting with the letter A and ending with the letter Z. This project is about merging two worlds: typography and fashion. Van Balkom brings Rietbergen’s typographic systems to life by translating them into textiles, while Rietbergen’s visual language leads to unexpected adjustments in Van Balkom’s moldings. Each artwork is accompanied by a publication, highlighting both the final piece and the design process, documenting research into form, materials and systems.

KD26 B

KD26 B is a sleeveless cardigan consisting of both black and white wool crochet squares, arranged in a graphic pattern that creates the uppercase B. This typographic artwork can be worn as a garment but can also be displayed as an object on the wall. Research into translating two-dimensional traditional crochet stitches into three-dimensional building blocks formed the foundation of the final garment. By assigning different depths to these building blocks, the vertical lines in the garment are accentuated. The front and back of the garment are designed as two separate pieces that fit together perfectly and form one compact whole.
