The Elsewhere - A Ceramic Ecosystem

Making space for play, curiosity, and joy through restorative escapism.

The Elsewhere - a Ceramic Ecosystem, side view

This utopian ceramic landscape inspired by coral reefs and with surreal elements offers a gentle form of escapism and invites adults to step sideways from reality, to explore and reconnect with childhood curiosity.

A playful ecosystem

In the fast world we are living in today, surrounded by screens, virtual realities, and endless digital possibilities, this work offers a different experience, one that is physical, tactile, and present.

Each ceramic form possesses a unique height, texture, and function. Together, they form a marble run and a cohesive ecosystem where a marble travels unpredictably, hiding in hollows, making sound, and triggering dynamic shifts before reaching one of four distinct endings.

Craft as escapism

Working with clay is a slow, tactile, and meditative process that stands in sharp contrast to the fast pace of modern daily life. Every ceramic element was crafted individually by hand, turning raw earth into an intricate playground. This deliberate slowness laid the groundwork for an experience designed to slow down the viewer.

Space to pause

As you move around the table, new perspectives, subtle details, and hidden routes reveal themselves. The project does not ask you to permanently escape reality, but to step sideways from it for a brief moment. By engaging your senses in playful exploration, 'The Elsewhere' creates space to pause, spark your imagination, and return to everyday life with renewed focus and restored energy.
