The Painters Cave

If only I could live inside a painting. We can take shelter there, as in a cave, but never truly live there. The search for a place of refuge is universal. Physically, as a place to feel at home, but also mentally, as a space to fantasize beyond the harsh, factual world.

About Oscar van der Put

Driven by a love for painting and a critical stance toward the medium, I create objects and installations built from paintings themselves—caves or shelters in which my own works function as building blocks. Their central theme is the primeval need to construct a shelter from reality.
