During Dutch Design Week 2025, Crafts Council Nederland presents the work of craft talent from various disciplines. From bronze casting to knitting and from woodturning to glassblowing, these makers have spent years mastering their techniques and practice and are experts in their fields.
HOW&WOW
Craft makers often work independently, yet their work is rarely the result of purely individual effort. Makers learn from one another and exchange materials and techniques. They are connected not only with those of their time but also with generations before and after them. Craft makers preserve and renew knowledge that has been built over centuries—knowledge for which formal education often no longer exists today.
They are also in constant dialogue with material. Makers conduct thorough research into the origin and possibilities of materials and explore the limits of what can be achieved with them. Current questions also play a role, such as how local materials and craft techniques can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Craftsmanship renews the connection between people, materials, and landscapes, resulting in unique objects made with respect for their surroundings in which the human hand is tangible. Objects that move, inspire wonder, spark curiosity and invite reflection on our relationship with the world around us.
