Back to the Flax #4

Every material has an origin

Back to the Flax — © Maria Paloma

The Back to the Flax collective – alle Design Academy Eindhoven students – returns with a new chapter of their multi-year project within the Kazerne Design Lab. The flax has been harvested; now begins a new phase of experimentation and research.

Next step: experimentation and research

Flax, once a staple in European daily life, has gradually faded out of sight. However, there is untapped potential as a sustainable and circular material waiting to be explored.

In the multiple-year project Back to the Flax, since 2024, the Kazerne Young collective keeps going back to the roots and reintroduce flax through research and material experiments into modern contexts. From seeds to crop in nature-inclusive applications.

During DDW, at Kazerne they will present their process and insights for the fourth time.
