Frozen Forms Going Full Circle: Playful Encounters with Form and Structure in Corrugated Cardboard

The Frozen Forms, a six-month exhibition at the Anchorage Museum, explored the morphology of Alaska’s winter landscape. The exhibition and its hands-on educational resources embraced reusable materials and a DIY approach that reflects the spirit of the North. "Here in Anchorage, we really embrace the idea of design as a way of having conversations, as a way of engaging people, as a way of engaging communities," explained the Museum’s Director/CEO, Julie Decker.

Designed by Noa Haim / Collective Paper Aesthetics in collaboration with the Anchorage Museum’s exhibition department and produced at Labro Verpakkingen in Eindhoven, the project will come full circle at DDW 2025 this autumn. Built entirely from 100% corrugated cardboard, the installation invites visitors to wander through a sculptural environment, view it from multiple perspectives, and explore it through touch and play.

The modular system was initially created for MUDAM Luxembourg in 2020 to interpret the work of artist Charlotte Posenenske with school classes and the public. Since then, it has been used in exhibitions and festivals at Museo Firenze, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Museum für Konkrete Kunst, and more.
