The dark stop-motion comedy "Nightmare Before Christmas" helps us lighten the negative emotions that deadlines evoke with a touch of humor. The Dutch Design Week (DDW) deadline can generate often controversial thoughts and emotions that emerge especially when we're under pressure
The Sensitive World. The First and Important Stages of the Artistic and Conceptual Journey. (Past)
As human beings, we believe we are the sole or primary possessors of a culture, that we possess feelings and deserve rights. Well, what if we reconsidered this assumption? What if even plants, animals, mountains, and rivers had their own way of expressing themselves that escapes our limited perceptions? Michela D’Angelo’s artistic vision, inspired by the thinking of botanist and academic Stefano Mancuso, provocatively challenges this anthropocentric view. Many of her early ceramic creations, HYBRID SHAPES, resemble elements of the natural world; they are hybrid forms, incredible living organisms, suspended in a surreal world between plant, animal, and human. The first important milestone that defined her artistic and conceptual journey began with the transfer of her roots from Italy to Spain and finally to the Netherlands. This was the birth of her first ROOTS works, which, like plants, find nourishment in diverse soils, adapting to different environments. In the TRAVELERS collection, the lamps are shaped and take on character and form based on the place, the traditions in which they were made and the dynamics of the interpersonal relationships experienced
The World of Control. Further stages of the artistic and conceptual journey. (Past. Present).
A second stage is the value attributed to imperfections. Experimenting with contradictions, bouncing from one limit to another, stretching thoughts until contrasting elements become equal. This philosophy translates into an emotional style, deeply rooted in nature and open to strong contrasts. Peace and conflict, past and present, emotion and reason. The current geopolitical context places us in a state of considerable unease and offers artisans the opportunity to transform themselves into producers of peace, through the reflection and slowness inherent in the act of craftsmanship. This phase involves structural experimentation, based on design, with the creation of a set of models inspired by fractal theory. This led to a series of reflections on the ways in which individual pieces are joined and separated, with the redefinition of new boundaries and limits, explicable in infinite formal solutions. New creations with composite and surreal shapes have been born. Collections as THE CLOUD, CLUSTER and FERTILITY, consisting of a series of chandeliers suspended in the air, with sinuous shapes like fruit hanging from branches.
Present stage of the artistic and conceptual journey. (Possible).
"From diamonds nothing is born, from manure flowers are born" (quote from the great Italian singer Fabrizio De Andre). After a period of conflict, reflection, and analysis, a possible new direction is now emerging, still under development. Michela D'Angelo follows a path of differentiation and separation that leads to a possible recovery of roots. This offers the possibility of integrating new and ancient forms. The fruit of this new research has generated the "Centopiedi" prototype, which will be exhibited in the NAZESUR exhibition, hosted by Nacho Carbonell, a few steps from Studio MiDA-Lab. All the collaborators (old and new) who have contributed over the years to developing the numerous works that have made him famous worldwide will participate in the exhibition. The exhibition space will be open daily, while Studio MiDA-lab will be closed for some days, during which it will still be possible to view all the works on display through the large windows.
