Fenna Kosfeld, artist and material explorer, presents Charred Light at DDW25 in Schellenfabriek with something.bigger. The expo showcases sculptural `Objects of Illumination` highlighting the tactile and aesthetic presence of carbonised matter elevated through light.

Destructive and Formative

The works celebrate elemental transformation and the ritualistic act of turning matter into char — a preservation of life in its most essential form, carbon.
Charred Light showcases a series of sculptural lamps crafted from carbonised wood, bones, and fired clay, paired with warm textile lampshades. The collection extends to handcrafted candles, bringing together objects of both illumination and remembrance. Each piece arises from elemental processes — charring, firing, and shaping — where fire becomes both destructive and formative, leaving behind surfaces of deep black and textures marked by time.

Mystical Poetry

More than functional objects, the works are sculptural characters that challenge conventional ideas of beauty and decay. Fragile, raw and scorched surfaces meets the intimacy of crafted light, that reveal a mystical poetry. Darkness and glow meet and offer moments of comfort and presence.
