Two worlds

WERKEN LOONT is an immersive installation about how we have designed work, participation, and human value. Visitors literally move between two worlds. The first world shows the experience of people who want to participate but get stuck in systems of rules, rejection, institutions, and expectations. A world in which the system constantly speaks in terms of obligation, compliance, and waiting. Opposite this stands a second world in which work provides energy, rhythm, meaning, and identity. A world of creating, collaborating, moving, and experiencing direct results.

Societal demand

At the same time, the project raises a broader societal question. In an era where AI is increasingly automating knowledge work, we continue to cling to old status symbols of the knowledge economy: working indoors, behind a screen, and status derived from title or education. Yet many people actually long for concrete, visible, and meaningful work.

Confrontation

WERKEN LOONT confronts visitors with the question: Who is actually limited here? The individual, the system, or the way we have structured work and value?

This project is being developed through a collaboration between the work-study company WSD, the participating municipalities of Best, Son en Breugel, Boxtel, Oirschot, Sint-Michielsgestel, Vught, Meierijstad, Nuenen, and Oisterwijk, and design studio Yellowchess. Together, they explore how design can contribute to new perspectives on work, participation, and human value in a changing society.
