We often think of the internet as invisible, yet its infrastructure is deeply physical. The level of global connectivity we have today would be unthinkable without the expansive networks of optic fiber.
Illumina uncovers this hidden reality by by following the long journey of a message: what begins as a simple interactions becomes part of a vast network of connection.

Water pumping technologies are unseen but vital for the Netherlands. With a quarter of the country lying below sea level, continuous pumping keeps the land dry.
SYNC reveals how the Netherlands now exists in an artificial balance. The water level that makes daily life possible is not a natural equilibrium but a carefully engineered one. Seasonal changes and increasingly extreme weather conditions continuously disturb this balance, requiring constant human intervention. Without pumping technologies, water would return to its natural height and large areas of land would vanish beneath it.
