Designing Questions

Jamie Salmon

The book Designing Questions authored by Anab Jain, Nikolas Heep, and Stefan Zinell from the Department of Design Investigations at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, puts one question forward: How can design foster hope in times of crisis?

The urgent questions of our time

With author Anab Jain and participants in the Class of ’26 we discuss the speculative practices, world-building, material engagement, and storytelling that equips students and practitioners to address urgent questions of our time – from the climate crisis to technological acceleration.

The Class of ’26 is an annual group exhibition at Dutch Design Week showcases (graduation) projects from various Dutch and international design schools and centralises the importance of education. The projects capture the spirit of the times and, collectively, provide an overview of where the next generation of designers will make a difference. With these designers of the future, we explore what’s needed for a new world.

Please join for an informal discussion, with DDW Beacon Anab Jain and other students and educators over a cup of coffee.

About Dutch Design Foundation

Dutch Design Week (DDW) returns to the essence of design in 2026. Under the theme R.A.W. (Rebel Authentic Worth), DDW embraces the unpolished, exploratory and experimental. A place where designers challenge existing ideas, explore new possibilities and reveal how change takes shape. For nine days, DDW brings together the full breadth of design.
