Studio Thier & van Daalen explores the fascinating interplay between light and material. During Dutch Design Week, they open the doors to their studio to present a new collection of lights, including the BLOOM and Ribbon wall light, where light, color, and form merge into locally crafted design.

Where light and matter meet

The studio moves effortlessly between light and material a continuous play of form and transformation. They explore the boundaries of what material can be: how it bends, stretches, supports, and sometimes breaks. With a keen eye for detail, they allow the material to partially follow its own path, while gently guiding it through the lines of their design.
Light is not an addition, but an active collaborator. It enhances, reveals, and softens both within the object and in the space it illuminates. By introducing light, they expose tension, colour, and transparency without compromising the purity of form. This creates a new kind of depth, a shifting play of colours that transforms throughout the day. Well-designed lighting promotes your well-being by subtly combining color, shape, and the right (LED) technology.
Each lamp is built around a uniquely developed fixture, carefully tuned to the precise balance between light and material. During Dutch Design Week, several of these pieces will be presented in their purest form, revealing how the light element and its effect have been intricately designed.

Dutch Design Week

New this year is the BLOOM wall light, where colour, glassblowing, and light come to life. This latest collection captures the enchanting beauty of sunlight dancing on flower petals. Also being introduced is a new member of the Plastic Mine series: The Ribbon Light.
The studio designs, produces locally where possible, and assembles everything in-house in their Eindhoven studio. They collaborate with artisans, industry partners, and clients—both independently and on commission for brands, interior designers, shops, and galleries. This approach not only ensures a conscious, low-impact footprint but makes their work genuinely Dutch in character.
You’re warmly invited to visit the studio during Dutch Design Week, where their workspace transforms into an intimate exhibition and temporary shop. While this is their creative home year-round, during this special week, they open their doors, share their process, and welcome you into their world of light and form.
