All of Us Are Alice is a playground of kinetic wonder-machines that recognizes wonder as a tool to (re)imagine our ways of thinking. It encourages visitors to become Alices, and participate in a collective journey through Wonderland; one that can be entered without a rabbit hole.
Why Wonder : Expanding the capacity to think, know and imagine
We are living through a crisis of imagination where imagination itself has been monopolized to serve individual interests over collective ones. This capture has rendered us incapable to imagine beyond the given, to imagine other forms of living. The only recourse to heal this is to rediscover the capacity for wonder in all of us - a sense of wonder that goes beyond escapism and emerges as a radical practice to imagine otherwise.
We start with Alice to understand such wonder. Through Lewis Carroll’s novels, we’re introduced to Wonderland - a world that troubles reality by teasing logic, non/sense and the rigidity of status quo simultaneously. Wonderland has been kept alive by us every time we resurrect Alice across the years, across mediums. In moments of crisis when all seems bleak, we look for wonder - and Wonderland, by extension. The research behind this project crystallizes all the methods by which Wonderland is made. These remakes contain protocols for flipping traditional taxonomies and recognize wonder as a tool to think the (im)possible. They urge us to dismantle the rigidity of our boundaries - to arrive into a world made of many worlds, and a self capable of many selves.
How Wonder : Using everyday objects as a breeding ground for collective imagination
All of Us Are Alice; and we’re all capable of wonder. This exhibit is an invitation to activate our sense of curiosity and fascination. It is an interactive playground, made up of everyday objects, where we decode and build our own wonder(land). Visitors become Alices, collecting hints and protocols, and operating kinetic wonder-machines to fantasise an ecosystem where nobody goes without wonder. Over nine days, this co-speculative experiment asks : How can we carry Wonder(land) wherever we go? How can we conjure wonder without a rabbit hole?
