ClipHut Shelving System

Tool‑free modular shelving made of dyed wood; award‑winning, German‑made, repairable and endlessly expandable—clip‑in assembly evolves with you.

ClipHut is a design studio. Our modular shelving uses naturally pigmented MDF, produced in Germany. It promotes sustainable living, assembles without tools via a clip‑in connection and adapts to life. At DDW we show the original system and our new collection.

Origins & Evolution

ClipHut originated as a modular wooden construction system for building houses and shelters. Its scalable clip‑in construction allowed us to erect entire structures, and this concept was later adapted for furniture. The ClipHut Shelving System uses the same clip‑in technique: precision‑cut boards slide together and lock into place without tools or a hammer. Initially designed to create quick, flexible shelters for refugees, the system proved invaluable during the pandemic when a room divider was needed for a home office. This insight inspired us to scale down the architectural kit into a modular shelving system. At Dutch Design Week 2025 we will showcase the original ClipHut Shelving System alongside our new collection of deeper and wider modules, top boards and bookends for expanded versatility.

Materials & Sustainability

Durability and sustainability are fundamental to ClipHut. We use high‑quality MDF coloured through with natural pigments, so the colour permeates the material and won’t chip or flake. The boards are finished with solvent‑free oil, giving a robust, velvety surface. Components are made locally in Germany using timber from responsibly managed European forests, reducing transport and supporting local craft. Because every board and clip can be separated without damage and reused, the system encourages repair, adaptation and circular use. ClipHut offers replacement parts and expansions so your shelving can evolve rather than be replaced. This approach has been recognised with awards such as the Iconic Award 2024 for innovation and sustainable design.

Adaptability & New Collection

ClipHut grew out of a flexible wooden construction kit developed by a team of architects and designers. Their aim was to create furniture systems that can be assembled and dismantled anywhere and adapted to different spaces without damaging walls or floors. That spirit of adaptability runs through our shelves: modules fit corners, living rooms or children’s rooms, and you can personalise the look by combining components in the available naturally pigmented colours (terracotta, yellow, blue, grey and black). Thanks to plug‑in elements, the system transforms from low sideboards to tall bookcases, retail displays or kids furniture. We also offer the ClipHut House system on a larger scale for building huts and tiny homes. Our new collection explores deeper and wider formats, introduces accessories to personalise your layout and will be available in a curated set of colours. By balancing innovation with simplicity, ClipHut invites you to design spaces that change with you.
