BOCHT - A chair made of 14 layers of waste Linoleum.

BOCHT is a design chair made from a single curved sheet of Multylino, a material developed by Studio JELMERREUS and composed of 100% waste linoleum sourced from Forbo. By pressing 14 layers of linoleum together, a strong yet flexible material is created, characterized by a unique layering and play of colors. Each chair is hand-shaped in a large mold, without any internal structure. The strength lies entirely in the tension of the material itself.

During the development of Multylino, Jelmer searched for ways to truly bring the material to life. Its properties – flexibility, resilience, and structure – became the foundation for a functional object at the intersection of art and design. BOCHT emerged when he discovered that the material could be bent into a stable chair purely through the tension within the combinded layers.

Finding the right balance between stiffness and flexibility was a challenge: the material needed to be strong enough to carry weight, yet flexible enough to hold its shape without cracking or tearing. Achieving this required extensive experimentation with adhesives, pressing pressure, and layering to reach a reliable result.

MEEROR - A series of mirrors inspired by mountain lakes

MEEROR reflects silence and stillness. It is a series of mirrors based on aerial photographs of alpine lakes in the Dolomites (Italy). After capturing these lakes with a drone, Jelmer translated their outlines into abstract mirror shapes.

During his hikes in the region over the past years, Jelmer became increasingly captivated by the clarity and tranquility of the lakes he encountered. This experience led him to create MEEROR, a collection that captures the beauty of these natural water surfaces in mirror form.

While exploring the possibilities of Multylino, he discovered a new technique that proved to be the perfect fit for this project. The mirrors are framed with Multylino, CNC-milled to reveal topographic contours – reminiscent of elevation lines on a map.

The collection consists of six different mirror shapes, each based on the exact outline of a lake, preserving the natural contours. The forms feel intuitively “right” and evoke a sense of harmony, even without knowing the story behind them.

Rollop

The ROLLOP Table is the newest addition to the Multylino family. This table is made from rolled-up remnants of linoleum, leftovers from the production of the BOCHT chairs. By rolling the layers sideways, a remarkably stiff tabletop is created — even in thin dimensions it resists bending. Each layer is essentially folded around the next, forming a structure that tightens under pressure. The table shown during Dutch Design Week is the first prototype and can be produced in any desired color or color composition.
