A Love Letter to Metal

Vis à vis is a double-headed snake confidant chair that came to me in a dream one summer night back in 2019. Barefooted I was, a breeze lured me into the circular foyer of an abandoned white mansion. Therein lay an enchanting abstract form, seducing me to sit upon it and wait for the host. As I looked across the round room, my eyes met with a serpent entering through an open door.

We paused and looked at each other for a while. The serpent approached and started curling and whirling its smooth body and climbed up onto the form, under my legs and around my back. It manoeuvred its body into its final resting
place and in that moment, became one with the form. This was the birth of the chair.

The Vis à vis chair is my love letter to metal - an exploration of silhouette and repetition, constructed entirely from curved tubes and existing round tube stock. The process is a meticulous jig-saw puzzle of geometry by cutting, rotating, and reassembling these standardized forms, it creates a "second skin" that is both classic and complex.

With over 5 metalworking techniques involved in this chair, it is an object devoted to craft.
