There’s no uniformity in the shape of stones and each stone has a different character and evokes different emotions in us. Inspired by them we tried to find a way to emphasize their beauty and individuality.

Adapting to and working with found shapes

Fascinated by the variety of natural shapes we started to collect stones in various sizes from different places such as mountains, rivers and beaches.

We started to bend aluminum tubes around each stone finding ourselves with an interesting dialogue between a natural shape and an industrial material which suddenly had to adapt to the shape of the stone.

While focussing on bringing back the presence to one of the most common natural fragments: the stone, we allowed the shape of the stone to appear in a different context by replicating them in paper.
We placed these fragile and translucent paper stones in the air above the original stone and connected both using the aluminum tube.
The tube’s role in this object is to create a dialog between two fragments with the same origin but different material characteristics.
This can be seen as a metaphor of human made objects fading into the background and giving back the presence to natural shapes.

With this method, we created a series of light objects which challenges the uniformity of modern mass production and celebrates the plurality of nature. It reconnects us with our origin and aims to transform the way we think and produce.
